The mission of the Yolo County Public Defender’s office is to provide quality legal representation through zealous advocacy that protects the liberty and constitutional rights of our clients and ensures a fair system of justice. We strive to be client-centered by advising holistically and assisting clients with the services necessary to address both their legal and social support needs. We believe in treating every client with compassion and respect as well as pursuing each case with commitment, professionalism and teamwork.
The Yolo County Public Defender's Office is comprised of 23 attorneys, 6 support staff, 5 investigators, and 2 social workers as well as numerous interns and volunteers. The office works to be full and active partners in implementing system changes necessitated by criminal justice realignment as well as to collaborate with partners to optimize outcomes and to minimize collateral consequences for clients. First and foremost however, the office is comprised of litigators, whose role it is to insist that law enforcement operate within the scope of their authority and that evidence is tested to the fullest extent of the law. Through these efforts the office ensures that the promise of equal access to effective assistance of counsel is alive and well in Yolo County.
